Iva (Hickox) Burdge, 100, of Hooker, Oklahoma, departed this life Monday, November 25, 2013 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas. Iva was born March 20, 1913 on a farm Northwest of Hooker to Ira and Lettie (Fouty) Hickox.
Iva graduated from Hooker High School with the class of 1930 and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK. She married William Albert (Abie) Burdge at her parents’ home, November 3, 1935. They then made their home on the family farm Northwest of Hooker where they raised their three children, William Ira (Bill), Carolyn Sue (Burdge) Fischer, Anita Louise (Burdge) Thompson
In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, needlepoint, knitting, and crocheting for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family meant a lot to her and she especially loved celebrating the Christmas season with them.
Iva was a member of the Hooker First Baptist Church and Ruth Circle. She was a charter member of the Hooker Hagolu, Crocheted Club (Happy Hookers), PEO Chapter AV, and Modernistic Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Albert (Abie) Burdge on July 30, 1973, a son in law Allan Fischer; and one great grandson William Patrick Cipolla.
She is survived by her children William Ira (Bill) and Olene Burdge of Beaver, Carolyn Fischer of Hooker, and Anita and Doyle Thompson of Hunter. Grandchildren Mike and Jana Burdge, John Burdge, Stephanie and Pat Cipolla, Roger and Marilyn Fischer, Bryan Fischer, Fred and Anastacia Fischer, Melissa Thompson, Mark and Kim Thompson. Step grandchildren Jerry and Alice Hale, Judy and Robert Prince, James and Jeannie Hale, Joe and Shannon Hale, Jana and Micah McKedy. 20 great grandchildren, 12 step great -grandchildren, 15 step great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Hershel W. Lawson officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma.
