Irene Riley Anderson

Irene Riley Anderson passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 17, 2013. She was born in a dugout, on a homestead in southwestern Kansas on March 18, 1912, to George Parker and Ethel (Robinson) Riley.
Irene grew up working hard on the ranch then married and went to Louisiana where she raised four children. In 1972, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and began a career in real estate. She became the first female real estate broker in this area and worked until she was 90.
She is survived by her daughter, Delores Anderson of New Mexico; son, Gene Anderson and his wife Sydney of Oklahoma; daughter, Shirley Wesselhoeft and husband A.J. of Louisiana; dear friend and caregiver, Mary Beth Correnti; sister, Bernice Riley Hellman of Colorado; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Anderson of Georgia.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Dennis Reimer officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice in Irene’s honor in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
