Irene Chavez

Irene Chavez, age 90, died Friday, August 23, 2024, at her home in Garnett, Kansas, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 10, 1933, in Fort McKavett, Texas, the daughter of Enrique and Clara (Hernandez) Saucedo.

Irene grew up in Texas and married Simon N. Chavez on October 5, 1952, in Knox City, Texas. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casinos. Time spent with her family and friends meant the most to her.

Irene is survived by her children, Bobby Chavez and wife, Rosa, Chavez of Las Vegas, Nevada, Danny Chavez of Joplin, Missouri, Becky Partida and husband, Freddy, of Garnett, Kansas; Simon Chavez Jr. and wife, Grace, of Ulysses, Rose Rodriquez and husband, Richard, of Brownfield, Texas, Stella Chavez of Ulysses, and Virginia Pauda and husband, Danny, of Wichita; siblings, Francis Contreras, Andrea Ramirez, Juan Saucedo, Rosa Molina and Hector Saucedo; 51 grandchildren, 160 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-great-grandchildren.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents; Enrique and Clara Saucedo; husband, Simon N. Chavez; daughter, Ester Chavez; son, Ricky Chavez; grandson, Ejon Velardes; and siblings, Abel, Jesse, Henry and Linda Saucedo.

Rosary will be Friday, August 30, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, August 30, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
