Irene Fae Brown, 84, of Laverne, Oklahoma passed away March 1, 2017 at Grace Living Center in Woodward, Oklahoma.
Irene was born April 17, 1932 in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Calvin and Effie Serfoss Nagel. She attended rural schools where her parents were teachers. After the family moved to Lamar, Colorado she graduated from Lamar High School with the Class of 1948. Irene worked as an operator for the Lamar phone company.
On July 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to Thomas Gene Brown at the Methodist Church parsonage in Clayton, NM. They made their first home in Adams, Oklahoma. In 1957 they moved to Liberal, Kansas and in 1962 to Hooker, Oklahoma. About 1971, after her kids were in school, she began work for the Hooker School Cafeteria. She later worked for Ideal Food Store, Audrey’s Fashion Shop and Little B’s Grocery and then returned to work at the school cafeteria until her retirement.
In 1995 they both retired and moved to Laverne, Oklahoma.
Irene was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Laverne, Oklahoma. Her joy was being near her grandkids and watching their many sporting activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Members of the family are her husband, Gene of the home; two sons, Alan Brown and his wife, Debbie of Hooker, Kelly Brown and his wife, Judy of Kernersville, North Carolina; two daughters, Gaye Lynn Balzer and husband, Larry of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cheryl Campbell and her husband, Mark of Laverne, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Kerri Parker, Brenda Grandy, Shanon Butler and Erica, Justin Brown and Maraina, Eric Brown and Emily, Casey Floyd and Paul, Mary Brown, Ashley DeVaughn, Jessica Hendrix and Nathan; eighteen great grandchildren, Jaxson, Jordyn, Matt, Madi, Blake, Sammi, Jacob, Macy, Connor, Rhyan, Brady, Mya, Rhett, Isaac, Alex, Zoe, Bella, Dexter.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Hooker Cemetery with Rev. Bill Kelly of the Laverne First Assembly of God Church.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma, 73945.
