Ignacio “Pete” Perez, Jr.

Ignacio “Pete” Perez, Jr., age 53, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Monday, August 14, 2023, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. He was born June 1, 1970, in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Ignacio “Pete” and Dolores (Hernandez) Perez.

Pete grew up in Ulysses and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1988. He joined the U.S. Army Airborne on November 21, 1989, and served as an infantryman. He received many medals, campaign ribbons, badges, and citations before he was Honorably Discharged on November 19, 1992. Pete loved his Dallas Cowboys, KU Jayhawks, and was a wrestling fan. He enjoyed playing softball and helped raise his nieces and nephew, Alexis, Jakob and K’Lee.

Pete is survived by brothers, Eloy Perez and wife Mary of Ulysses, Johnnie Perez of Lubbock, Texas and Candelario Perez of Dodge City; sisters, Yolanda Hernandez and husband Martin Sr., Tina Ochoa and husband Eddie, and Irene Perez all of Ulysses, and Melissa Perez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Dolores Perez.

Graveside service will be Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Ulysses Cemetery with Pastor Jon Becker officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
