Howard R. Ebersole, 79, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away February 12, 2011 at the Dunaway Manor in Guymon, Oklahoma .
Howard Robert Ebersole was born December 31, 1931 near Hooker, Oklahoma, the son of Marshal Robert Ebersole and Martha Linow Gillmore Ebersole.
After graduating from Hooker High School he studied at Diesel Mechanic School in Okmulgee, Oklahoma before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. After his discharge, in November of 1955, he returned to Hooker to help his mother manage the family farm.
Howard was united in marriage to Betty LaVonne Voth on September 28, 1956 in Clayton, NM . After a few years of farming Howard began work at Tradewind Industries in Liberal, KS and later went to work at the Nash Finch Warehouse in Liberal where he worked until his retirement.
Howard and Betty had three children, Marshall Ron, John Lee and Mary Beth. Howard was a strong, dependable dad who did his best to instill the same qualities in his children. He always made sure his family was well cared for. Howard was an avid fisherman, gardener and treasure hunter. He enjoyed raising a huge garden and giving fresh produce to people in town. People found him easy to remember because he was so tall and because he loved to visit and sometimes would talk for hours.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, and his sister, Jean Ukens.
He is survived by his sister Madge Ukens, his children Ron Ebersole of Hooker, Oklahoma, John Ebersole and his wife Jennifer of Liberal, Kansas and Mary Beth Ebersole; two grandchildren, John Logan Ebersole and Jayda Leigh Ebersole.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker, Oklahoma with Rev. Les Bussell officiating.
