After an amazing and full life Howard Andrew Dunn, age 93, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas.
He was born on March 7, 1930, in Richfield, Kansas, to Oral Allen and Lena May (Sims) Dunn.
Howard graduated from the Goodwell Oklahoma high school, and continued his education at Oklahoma Panhandle State University and received his masters at Oklahoma State University. Howard joined the United States Army on July 10, 1951, serving two years. After leaving the United States Army, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Anna Erlandson on May 19, 1956. Mary Anna preceded him in death on October 12, 2012. Howard taught school in Moorhead, Iowa and Liberal, Kansas, and worked in the oil patch for Haliburton, Panhandle, and Anadarko. He also worked for Chapman and General Electric. He rounded out his long working career as a computer programmer for Physicians Mutual for 20 years. Howard belonged to the American Legion and the Methodist Church in Richfield, Kansas. He loved cats and they loved him. Howard was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed going to auctions for his next great find. He was very fond of his family, especially his all nephews and nieces. His life was a life well lived and he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his brother, Don Dunn of Richfield, Kansas, sister, Verda Mae Allen of Elkhart, Kansas, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anna (Erlandson) Dunn, both his parents, Oral Allen and Lena May (Sims) Dunn, daughter, LuAnn Dunn, two brothers, Eldon Dunn and Wallace Dunn, two sisters, Gail King and Avilla Lewis.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas with the family present 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Richfield First United Methodist Church, 451 Walnut Street, Richfield, Kansas. Pastor David Eckert will be presiding. The service may be viewed live on the Hornung Family Funeral Home Facebook page at the time of service.
A burial will follow at Richfield Cemetery.
