Hermilo Avitia-Misclez, age 71, of Johnson, Kansas, died Monday, June 17, 2019, at his home in Johnson, Kansas. He was born January 13, 1948, in Gomez Faris, Chihuahua, Mexico, the son of Jesus and Candelaria (Misclez) Avitia.

Hermilo married Cora Minjarez in 1972 in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Moving from Rocky Ford, Colorado, they have lived in Johnson since 1976. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, playing cards and was known for his jokes and storytelling. Hermilo also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Cora of the home; son, Gildardo Avitia of Johnson; daughters, Tina Olivas of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Alicia Avitia of Johnson; sisters, Ramona Torres of Newton, Chavela Ruiz and Carmelina Ruiz both of Denton, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Hermilo is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and four sisters.

Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 20, 2019, and funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 21, 2019, both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, and 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM, Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
