Herman F. Rempel

Herman F. Rempel, age 94, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 16, 2022, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

He was born February 3, 1928, in rural Meade County, Kansas, the son of George J. and Marie (Friesen) Rempel. As a young boy, he attended school at the McNaulty rural country school. After his education, he began his career as a farmer and mechanic, having a dairy with his brother Will in the 1950’s and working at Rempel Automotive. In 1994, he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, until his retirement in 2017, moving to Topeka, Kansas, to be near family.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade. He enjoyed collecting farming toys, Ford model cars, playing his harmonica with several area musicians, and spending time with his family and friends.

On June 8, 1951, he married Eva F. Reimer at Meade, Kansas. She precedes him in death on October 8, 2020.

He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Dillon and husband Matt of Topeka, Kansas, and Janalee Sue Rempel of Garden City, Kansas; four brothers, Will Rempel (Alta) and Walter Rempel, both of Meade, John Rempel (Phyllis) of Newton, Kansas, and Edwin Rempel (Katherine) of Hesston, Kansas; four sisters, Margaret Reimer of Meade, Marilyn Harms of Corn, Oklahoma, Eileen Kaufman (Burt) of Marion, South Dakota, Helen Day (Dr. Howard) of Wichita, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Alvera Thiessen (Wilmer) of Newton, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Ken Kauffman (Jane) of West Liberty, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brandi Osburn and husband Derek of Olathe, Kansas, Nicole Thyfault and husband Dominic of Topeka, Katrina Dillon of Los Angels, California, and Cody Dillon of Topeka, Kansas; and a great-granddaughter, Piper Eva Thyfault of Topeka.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Pete, Don, and Eldon Rempel; and a sister, Erma Kauffman.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade. Interment will take place prior to the service in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the Operation Christmas Child or the Emmanuel Mennonite Church in care of the funeral home.
