Helen Ann Moore , 82, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away March 9, 2011, at her home.
Helen Ann was born October 9, 1928, in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alex and Viola Herbel Hofferber. She attended parochial Lutheran School and then Hooker Schools graduating from Hooker High School with the Class of 1946. She attended Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Oklahoma, receiving her BA in English in only three years. She taught in Turpin for three years, in Hooker for two years and then taught Junior High English in Guymon until 1971.
Helen was united in marriage to Charles R. Moore in April 17, 1971, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooker, Oklahoma. They made their home on their ranch near Boise City, Oklahoma . In 1996 they moved into their new home in Boise City where they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Charles passed away November 23, 2007. In 2008, due to her illness, she moved to Hooker, Oklahoma, where she lived with her sister, Donna.
Helen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooker and was a past member of Hope Lutheran Church in Boise City for twenty-five years where she was a member of LWML. She was an active member of AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers Association, Garden Club, Athenaeum Club, Hagolu, and was on the Cimarron County Library Board. She found time to volunteer to read to children at the Boise City Schools. She was a lifelong learner and read a wide variety of topics. She collected books for over fifty years.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include her three sisters, Donna Holzrichter of Hooker, Peggy Dixon and her husband Robert of Tacoma, Washington, Sandra Hofferber of La Junta, Colorado ; eight nieces and nephews , Pamela & Tim Grout of Littleton, Colorado , Lex & Barb Holzrichter of Hooker, Candace & Ed Munson of Edmond, Oklahoma , Paula Nisi of Littleton, Colorado, Eric & Linda Dixon of Guymon, Oklahoma , Andrew & Stephanie Dixon of Tacoma, Washington, Kerstin & Younes Et Taik of Denver, Colorado, Marit & Joseph Watson of Enid, Oklahoma ; nine grand nieces; two great grand nieces and two great grand nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooker, Oklahoma, with Rev. Thomas House officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Boise City Cemetery in Boise City, Oklahoma.
