Helen Marie (Pittman) Shawver, 63, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023.

Helen was born in Liberal, KS on September 7, 1959 to William C. and Faylene (Ambrosier)

Pittman.

On August 25, 1984 she was married to Martin B. Shawver in Liberal, KS; they made

their home in Douglass, KS.

Helen grew up in Liberal, KS and graduated from Liberal High School in 1977. During school

Helen was a 10-yr Girl Scout and involved in the International Order of Rainbows for Girls. She

attended Seward County Community College and Wichita State University. She graduated from

Kansas School of Barbering in 1983 and worked at Harveys Barber Shop, in Augusta, KS, for

several years. She was involved with her children’s activities as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout

Leader, sponsor for many activities, and was the Junior/Senior class sponsor while they

attended school in Douglass. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Douglass,

KS. She was a Deaconess and served as a church Elder, the church Treasurer and served on

several committees. Helen taught Children’s Church, VBS, and the afterschool youth programs:

WASP and YOGA. She was active with the ladies group Giggles, the Chicken Noddle dinners,

helped with the Community Thanksgiving dinners, and coordinated the Douglass Christmas

Food and Toy Drive. Helen loved her family, cooking, traveling, hosting family gatherings,

playing dominoes, and sister trips.

She is survived by her husband, Martin B. of Douglass, KS, daughter, Sally E. Shawver,

Highlands Ranch, CO and son, Martin Blaine Shawver II, Wichita, KS, parents, Faylene and

Charles Cambern, Liberal, KS, sisters, Ellen (Daryl) Banister, Augusta, KS, Dulene (Paul) Duncan,

Wichita, KS, sister-in-law, Kim Pittman, Wichita, KS and Judy (David) Tillemans, Rock, KS, special

aunt Kaylene (Vance) Freeman, Goddard, KS, many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Helen was preceded in death by her father, William C. Pittman, brother, William A. Pittman,

grandparents Arlo and Ellen Ambrosier, Clyde and Pauline Pittman.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at the First Christian

Church, Douglass, KS.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the First Christian Church, 303 E. 4 th

Street, Douglass, KS 67039.
