Helen M. Juhl, age 89, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas. She was born December 31, 1926 in Bemidji, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter E. and Ruth O. (Blakley) Ritchie.
Helen lived in Duluth, Minnesota until she was 6 years old. She then moved with her family to Welcome, Minnesota where she graduated high school. Helen married Roy L. Juhl on November 9, 1946 in Fairmont, Minnesota. They lived in Liberal, Kansas from 1950 until 1986 when they moved to Ulysses. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge in Liberal where she was a past Noble Grand; and a member of the Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen R. Smith of Ulysses, Kansas, and Lorraine Mendenhall of Salina, Kansas; sister, Margaret Bretsen of Poulsbo, Washington; one granddaughter, Valerie Phillips; and one great-grandchild, Bailey Phillips.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roy in 1995.
Graveside service will be Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Ulysses Cemetery with Reverend Sam Bynum officiating. Friends may call on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Country View Baptist Church or Grant County Senior Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
