Helen Fern (Farmer) O’Hair

Helen Fern (Farmer) O’Hair, age 83, of Elkhart, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born August 30, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the daughter of E.H. and Eula Rhea (Eatmon) Farmer.

On June 25, 1955, Helen married Billy Max O’Hair in Great Bend, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2013. She was a long time Elkhart resident and member of the First Christian Church. Helen was a well-respected educator for the Rolla School District for 22 years, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing, knitting, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Helen is survived by sons, Kevin and wife Kristi of Amarillo, Texas, Gary and wife Lisa of Pendaries, New Mexico, Thane and wife Brenda of Elkhart, Kansas; sister, Vaughnda Cain of Rio Vista, California; 10 grandchildren, Cassie, Will, Lexi, Dax, Jackson, Cale, Tucker, Kaede, Chace and Nakaela; 7 great-grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Whitley, Mason, Destynee, Xerayah and Kiahna.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, parents; sisters, Valta and Janie.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 1:00 PM at First Christian Church in Elkhart with Pastor Jim Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart. Visitation is Friday, September 11, 2020, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Tri-State Bank of Elkhart, where a memorial has been set up in Bill and Helen O’Hair’s name to provide a scholarship for an Elkhart High School Student, PO Box 1000, Elkhart, Kansas 67950.
