Hazel Ileene Brown, age 87, of Ulysses, Kansas died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born March 19, 1928 in McLennan County, Texas, the daughter of Nep and Minnie Elizabeth (Stover) Johnson.
Hazel grew up in Texas. She married Weldon E. Brown on November 19, 1948 in Waco, Texas. They moved to Ulysses in 1961. Hazel, a homemaker, enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, embroidering, and music. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by son, Terry Brown and wife Sheila of Ulysses, Kansas; daughters, Stella Walden of Woodward, Oklahoma, Deborah Dieker of Ulysses; brother, Eddie Perry of Gatesville, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Brown; and siblings; Earnest Johnson, Marie Johnson, and Nep Johnson Jr., and Ella Maye Mars.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
