Harold E. Tompkins

Harold E. Tompkins, age 80, of Ulysses, Kansas died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born March 20, 1932 at Byers, Kansas the son of Harvey and Mable (Alton) Tompkins.

Harold spent his childhood in Byers, Kansas and Cullison, Kansas where he graduated High School. After graduation, he attended Pratt Community College and was then drafted in the U.S. Army. Harold worked many years as a drilling operator working and living in numerous locations including Kingman, Kansas and Great Bend, Kansas. He later worked as a construction superintendent for Mid-America Contractors before he transitioned into consulting work. Harold moved to Ulysses, Kansas in 1979.

In 1980 he married Yvonne Schwindt. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons; Todd Tompkins of Oberlin, Kansas, Kelly Tompkins and wife Christy of Carthage, Texas, Kendall Tompkins and wife Chawan of Madison, Georgia, two step-sons; Nick Schwindt and wife Mona of Liberal, Kansas, Kim Schwindt and wife Iris of Ulysses, Kansas, three step-daughters; Candace Moten and husband Willis of Lawrence, Kansas, Darcy Broadfoot and husband Brent of Woodland Park, Colorado, Kari Harrison and husband Mike of Silver City, New Mexico, Seven grandchildren, one great-grand child, twelve step-grandchildren and 15 great step-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Gene Tompkins and Robert Tompkins.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, Kansas with Father Tran officiating. Burial with military rites will be at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Cullison, Kansas. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, Kansas.
