Glenda Kay Nelson

Glenda Kay Nelson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and, passed away on October 25, 2024, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 85. Glenda was born on December 4, 1938, in Dodge City, Kansas to Glenn Kenneth and Margueritte Lucille(Simmons) Dowling where she grew up and graduated from Dodge City High School.

She and Robert Duane Nelson were married on December 29, 1956, in Dodge City, Kansas. Glenda and Robert would go dancing on Saturday night and enjoy their time together. Robert preceded Glenda in death. To this union were for children; Leanne, Janet, Brett and Bill.

Throughout her life, Glenda was known for her unwavering love for her family. She was often referred to as the “Best Ever Mother” by her children, a testament to the nurturing and supportive spirit she embodied.

Her family included her four children: Leanne Underwood of Garden City, KS; Janet Orrell of Florissant, CO; Brett Nelson of Garden City, KS; and Bill Nelson and his wife Jackie of Abilene, KS. Glenda was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to nineteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy. Her family was not only the center of her life, but they also filled her days with happiness and purpose.

Glenda’s passions were diverse and included playing cards at the senior center, shopping, and enjoying garage sales, activities that kept her engaged and active in the community. Her personality shone through her love for her children and grandchildren, and she actively participated in their lives as an engaged and enthusiastic matriarch.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as two brothers, Edward and Ronnie.

Book signing will be held on October 31, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at Robson Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Robson Funeral Home. Family will receive family and friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A funeral service will take place on November 2, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at the First Christian Church, Garden City, KS. Following the service, Glenda will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Copeland Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
