Geraldine Harp

Geraldine Harp, age 84, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 4, 1928 in Bearden, Arkansas, the daughter of Basil E. and Daisy Med (Hood) Mead.
Geraldine, a longtime Ulysses resident, grew up in Arkansas and attended the Bearden, Arkansas School District. She married Luther Harp on February 9, 1946 in Bearden, Arkansas. She was a seamstress for many years and did alterations for local clothing stores and the public. The highlight of her sewing career was sewing and altering for Miss Kansas 2001, Kimberlee Grice, and attending the pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Geraldine was a charter member and last original member of the Assemblies of God Church in Ulysses. She served as a Sunday school teacher, church secretary, and holding all offices for the Women’s Missions. Geraldine loved to travel. She enjoyed going to Oregon and Texas to see her daughter’s and their families; Arkansas to see family members; and traveling with her two nieces. The family would like to thank the staff of The Legacy at Park View and Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her two daughters, Beckie Fuentes and husband David of Houston, Texas, and Linda Smith and husband Richard of Ulysses, Kansas; five grandchildren, Shawn Brown, Lowell Harp, Kayla Harp, Shawnna Sears, and Jessica Harp; eight great-grandchildren, David, Richard, Lowell Jr., Mindy, Ian, Sierra, Bobbie, and Raeshawna; and one great-great-grandchild, Braden.
Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bennie Robey; husband, Luther, on January 14, 1992; and son, Stephen, on December 1, 2012.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Oasis Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Pastor Kris Humphrey officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given, in lieu of flowers, to the Geraldine Harp Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
