Geraldine A. Coen, Jerry, to everyone who knew her, age 73, of Elkhart, Kansas died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born May 31, 1940 in New Castle, Delaware, the daughter of Millard and Francis (Boloslawski) Meredith.

Jerry was raised in Wilmington, Delaware where she went to Catholic school and learned how to play the piano. She loved to garden, anything to do with plants, and don’t forget her never ending lists. She met the love of her life, Kelvin D. Coen, on a blind date, but first he had to walk around the block for approval. They were married on October 25, 1957 in Elkton, Maryland, and had four children; Gene, Teresa, Cindy and Tim.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Overpeck and husband Don, Cindy Ewing and husband Allen; son, Tim Coen and wife Debbie; mother, Mrs. Francis Meredith, age 99; brother, Lawrence Meredith and wife Donna; daughter-in-law, Vickie Coen; brother-in-law, Donald Coen; sister-in-law, Jean Coen; grandchildren, Wendy Archer and husband Michael, Brandon Coen and wife Jessica, Heather LaFond and husband Jonathon, Wesley Coen and wife Courtney, Mandy LaRue and husband Jeff, Kimberly Mostrom and husband Travis, Kayla Foster and husband Casey, Dwayne Ewing, Ashley Ewing and wife Karli, Micheal Coen; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jerry is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kelvin, who always said “You don’t argue with your Mother, She’s always right”; son, Lawrence Eugene (Gene) Coen and father, Millard Meredith.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Keith Davis officiating. Friends may call Monday, September 30, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to the Kansas Crippled Children, Kansas Special Olympics or the Relay for Life in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950
