Gerald Mongold, 83, of Tyrone, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, May 14 in Goddard, Kansas surrounded by his loved ones. Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm June 20 at The Keg Dance Hall in Colwich, Kansas. The Keg Dance Hall is located at 130 E Chicago Ave in Colwich, Kansas.
Gerald was born in Topeka, Kansas to Arthur Mongold and Velma (Funk) Liertz on November 30, 1937. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1955. He married Deanna Eicher on May 20, 1964 in Liberal, Kansas and resided in Tyrone, Oklahoma before moving to Cheney, Kansas. Gerald was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force. After proudly serving our country, he started a career as a truck driver and retired in 2001.
Gerald is survived by his wife Deanna; their 3 sons Rick (Joan) Mongold, Richard (Janet) Mongold, and Michael (Julie) Mongold. He was a proud grandfather to Kenya (Phil) Darbyshire and Ashten (Reid) Ledgerwood; and a proud great grandfather to Aiden and Evan Darbyshire. He is survived by his three brothers: Lanny (Mary) Mongold, Rich (Kay) Mongold, and Ronnie Mongold.
Gerald will be remembered first and foremost for the love of his family. He loved to go fishing, spending time with family and just being outside people watching. Gerald never knew a stranger and would carry on a conversation like he would have known you for a lifetime. He had a big heart and the kindest personality of anyone known.
