Georgia Mae Herron

Georgia Mae Herron, age 89, of Johnson, Kansas died Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson. She was born October 16, 1931, in Rogersville, Missouri, the daughter of Bill and Lillian (Cox) Bracken.

Georgia was born and raised in Missouri and Southeast Kansas. On October 16, 1948, Georgia married Manford A. Herron in Amarillo, Texas. Together, they lived on the Morton and Stanton County Line where she, and Manford, farmed. Georgia was a proud farmers wife who could be found out in the field working alongside her family. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Elkhart, Kansas where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Georgia loved flowers, gardening and cooking for others. In Johnson and Manter, she was better known as the “Pie Lady”. Georgia’s world revolved around her two grandchildren, Flint and Chane, and she enjoyed time with her great-grandchildren as well.

Georgia is survived by her daughter, Patty Lou Rains and husband Eugene, of Meade, Kansas; two grandchildren, Chane Westen Rains and wife Kasey of Meade, Kansas, and Flint Eric Rains of San Angelo, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Owen Rains and Nathan Rains of Meade, Kansas, and Wyatt Rains of San Angelo, Texas.

Georgia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Manford Herron on February 1, 2011; one brother, Charles Bracken; two sisters, Gladys Ellis and Dorothy Hamilton.

Graveside Service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas, with Pastor Steve Rains officiating. Service may also be viewed live on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Page. Public visitation will be on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
