George Atwood: UPDATE

George Edson Atwood, age 82, of Elkhart , Kansas died November 5, 2012 at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart , Kansas . He was born July 10, 1930 in Jetmore , Kansas the son of George Smith and Myrtle ( Henderson ) Atwood.
George has lived in Elkhart since the age of seven. He graduated from Elkhart High school and attended Kansas University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ag Science and Animal Husbandry from Kansas State University . He served in the Army during the Korean War. George farmed from 1941 until this May. He married Ann Long on August 28, 1961 in Mesa , Arizona . George was a past member of the Elkhart Flying Club, Morton County Airport Board and had a private pilot’s license with an instrument rating and commercial pilot’s license. He served in the Kiwanis, on the Kansas State Farm Management Board, FSA Board, and the Soil Conservation Board. George was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elkhart .
Survivors include his wife, Ann, of the home; son, Steven Atwood of Elkhart , Kansas ; daughter, Carolyn Morris and husband Jeff of Hutchinson, Kansas; two grandchildren, Anna Marie Deal, and Evann Grace Deal; six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
George is preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Patricia Atwood.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 09, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart , Kansas with Pastor Ed Richards officiating. Interment will be at the Elkhart Cemetery . Friends may call Thursday, November 08, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart .
