Gene Campbell: UPDATE

Gene Campbell, age 82, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta, Kansas. He was born October 30, 1930 in Stevens County, Kansas, the son of Burgis and Ruby (Jennings) Campbell.

Gene was a lifetime resident of Hugoton, serving nine years in the United States Army Reserves. In 1950, he married Ila Harper in Clayton, New Mexico. Gene was an oil and gas inspector and independent contractor. He also farmed. Gene was a member of the Bethel Friends Church, taught Sunday School classes, was the Sunday School Superintendent, and enjoyed singing at church.

Survivors include his wife, Ila, of the home; sons, Jerry Campbell and wife Janet of Emporia, Kansas, Kris Campbell and wife Marreta of Hugoton, Kansas; daughter, Dana Seidle and husband John of Centennial, Colorado; brother, Terry Campbell and wife Carol of Hugoton, Kansas; sister, Barbara Walters of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yvonne Carlise.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM at the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with Pastor Eric Mason and Dave Mason officiating. Friends may call Friday, January 4, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bethel Friends Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.
