Gary Michael Meierhoff

Gary Michael Meierhoff, age 63, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born on November 20, 1960, in Ulysses, the son of Ronney J. and Shirley Marie (Weiss) Meierhoff. 

Gary grew up in the East Cities Service Camp and attended Red Rock School until the 6th grade. After graduating in 1978 from Ulysses High School, he attended Dodge City Community College on a baseball scholarship and earned an associate’s degree. He married Maureen Sullivan on November 28, 1981, in Ulysses. Gary worked for almost 40 years at Columbian Chemicals while also operating Meierhoff Lawn Care for 18 years. He enjoyed watching and playing baseball and softball, camping, fishing, golfing, dove and pheasant hunting, and watching KU basketball. He served as a coach for his kids’ basketball and soccer teams. His favorite times were watching his kids and grandkids participate in various sports and activities. He loved watching them grow and develop their own personalities. When they were young, he made up The Bathtub Song and it has been sung to the grandkids as well. Gary was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He will be remembered for being a good provider for his family and his quick wit.

Gary is survived by his wife, Maureen; children, Andrea Turner and husband, Bryan, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lindsay Dvorak and husband, Eric, of Spearville, Megan Morales and husband, Mario, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Janni Martinez and husband, Dominic, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Alec Meierhoff and fiancé, Julia Hinman, of Shawnee; father, Ron Meierhoff of Colwich; brother, Doug Meierhoff and wife, Lisa, of Wichita; ten grandchildren, Gannon and Kenryck Morales, Jarran, Cammack, Dane and Sadie Dvorak, Quinn and Crew Turner, Kaylor and Evie Martinez; and 22 nieces and nephews.
  
Gary is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Meierhoff.

Rosary will be Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 6:00 PM and Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Father John Kowal Scholarship Fund or K9s For Warriors in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
