Gary Leon Heger

Gary Leon Heger, 77, passed from this earth surrounded by his family on April 16, 2015 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover, KS. He was born in his home, July 18, 1937 to Otto and Versia Heger of Hugoton, KS. He attended Fairview Grade School and graduated from Hugoton High School in 1955.
On November 20, 1965, he was united in marriage with Theresa (Cordova) Heger at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal, KS. Together, they made their home in Stevens County and raised five children.
Gary’s passion was farming. With much love and hard work, he expanded his farm and provided for his family, always putting his family first. Among the significant memories he shared with his family and friends, many will remember his frequent trips to Colorado to enjoy skiing, fishing, camping and hunting with those close to him.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed many hobbies including R/C flying, coin collecting and woodworking in which he built a playhouse enjoyed by his 18 grandchildren, along with many other wooden treasures. However, riding his Gold Wing motorcycle with his sons and friends, along with many casino trips with his daughters, were enjoyed the most. Gary was well known for his patience, generosity, kindness, and never spoke an unkind word. Although he was a quiet man, he was well-respected and loved by many.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Heger of Hugoton, KS; sons, Chris Heger and wife Stephanie; Robb Heger and wife Kim; daughter, Natalie Ralstin all of Hugoton, KS; son, Dr. Rodrick Heger and wife Laura of Winfield, KS; daughter, Andrea Nix and husband Jared of Hugoton, KS.
He was blessed with 18 beautiful Grandchildren; Christian, Kathryn, Gavin and Griffin Heger; Abby, Gillian and Storm Heger; Alexa, Courtney and Rance Ralstin all of Hugoton, KS; Gabe, Elijah, Noah, Sophia and Ana Heger of Winfield, KS; Corbin, Lauren and Payson Nix of Hugoton, KS.
Also surviving, his sister, Betty Lee and brother, Marlin Heger, both of Hugoton, KS.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Versia Mills Heger and father, Otto Heger.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday April 21, 2015 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 1011 S. Jefferson, Hugoton, KS. Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery.
Rosary and Vigil will be held 7:00 p.m., Monday at St. Helen Catholic Church.
Visitation will be 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday at Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Heger Memorial Fund for the family’s future designation in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
