Frances A. Marrs, age 92, passed away early Saturday morning, May 7, 2022, in Fowler, Kansas.
She was born November 27, 1929, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Forrest and Mary (Reekie) Trent. As a young girl, she attended school in Dodge City. Frances was the first of her family to finish high school, graduating from Dodge City High School in 1947.
On November 27, 1947, she married Ralph LeeRoy “Roy” Marrs in Dodge City. After their marriage, the couple made their home in rural Fowler, Kansas. A longtime Fowler resident, she was the secretary for Meade County Extension. At work, she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of both home economics and agriculture with Meade Co. residents. She continued on as the Meade Co. Fair Board secretary for many years post-retirement.
She was a member of the Fowler United Methodist Church, serving in many different capacities. She was also a 4-H leader for many years and held fond memories of all the 4-H members she worked with. As a couple, Roy and Frances enjoyed going out dancing in their spare time. She also enjoyed crocheting, needlework, cooking, gardening, cake decorating, and spending time with her family and friends. Frances was also an avid doll collector.
She is survived by two sons, Duke Marrs and wife Donna of rural Fowler, and Doug Marrs and wife Pat of Hays, Kansas; a daughter, Garalee “Lee” Roberts of Yukon, Oklahoma; a brother, Jesse (Shirley) Trent of Dodge City; eight grandchildren: Macara (Shawn) Jacobs, Brett (Amber) Marrs, Breanne (Tyrel) Nilhas, Bryce Marrs, Aaron (Audrey) Maxwell, Cody (Alli) Cottengim, Cheyenne (Steve) Federau, and Marshall Marrs, along with eighteen great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by young son, Forrest LeeRoy “Forry,” her husband Roy; her parents; and a brother, Jim Trent.
Viewing will take place on Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Fowler Cemetery.
