Floyd R. Downs

Floyd R. Downs, age 85 passed away late Sunday evening, September 15, 2019, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

He was born February 18, 1934, at Syracuse, Kansas, the son of Emil and Inez (Servaes) Downs.  As a young boy, he attended the Plains Grade School and later Plains High School, graduating in 1953.  After his graduation, he joined the United States Army serving from 1957 until 1960.  Upon his discharge, he returned to Plains where he worked as a dye setter and welder for Tradewinds and Meade Manufacturing for several years.

He enjoyed watching videos of lumber processing, sharpening saw blades, and spending time with his family and friends.

On November 8, 1960, he married Evelyn Belle Johnson at Lawton, Oklahoma, she precedes him in death on July 5, 1984.

He is survived by two brothers, Ira Downs of El Reno, Oklahoma and Wallace Downs of Holly, Colorado; a sister, Virginia Harrington of Elk Falls, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; a brother Leil Roland Downs; and a sister Elsie Fuller.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Plains Cemetery, Plains, Kansas.  Interment will follow the services.  Cremation has taken place.

The family would welcome memorials to the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
