Evelyn Smith: NEW UPDATE

Evelyn Smith, age 81, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. She was born April 08, 1930 in Winton, California, the daughter of Abraham T. and Mary (Koehn) Koehn.

Evelyn attended grade school in Winton, California and high school in Livingston, California. Having a father as a minister, Evelyn and her sisters had the opportunity to travel and visit with many families. Evelyn married Vernon Smith on December 18, 1949 in Winton, California. They lived in California for 7 years prior to 1960 when they moved to Grant County and began farming. Evelyn enjoyed singing, cooking and sewing. She was a member of the Grant Mennonite Church of Ulysses.

She is survived by her three sons, Bryan Smith and wife Vickie of Ulysses, Kansas, Bradley Smith and wife Marsha of Fountain Run, Kentucky, Marshall Smith and wife Shawna of Ulysses, Kansas; four daughters, Carol Koehn and husband Leslie, Lavauna Isaac and husband Harold, Janell Smith, and Monica Smith all of Ulysses, Kansas; one brother, Stanley Koehn and wife Joyce of Winton, California; one sister, Mildred Johnson and husband Duane of Almena, Wisconsin; 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon on January 27, 2011; six brothers, Elmer, Jesse, Clifford, Irvin, Kenneth, Delano; and three sisters, Elsie Baize, Irene Nightingale, and Virginia Koehn.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grant Mennonite Church in Ulysses with Ministers Stuart Jantzen and Denton Koehn officiating. Interment will follow at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday, July 29, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses; and Friday, July 29, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bethel Home in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
