Evelyn Marie Evans-Ellis

Evelyn Marie Evans-Ellis, age 101, died September 23, 2022, while residing at Oxford Grand at Market Square in Wichita Kansas.

She was born on Monday, July 18, 1921 in rural Meade County to, Meade Kansas, the daughter of Fred Franklin and Sylvia Mae Keltner Ford. A resident of Meade County most of her life, and then living in Wichita from 2002. A homemaker, mother of three, and former employee of the Meade Public School system for 19 years retiring in 1986. She was an accomplished seamstress for many.

She belonged to the Meade United Methodist Church, a Guild member and received a lifetime membership pin in 1966. She served on committees for Senior Citizens, Women’s Groups, Sunday and Bible School. She attended Meade Schools, graduating from Meade Hugh School in 1939.

In July 15,1940 she married James Andrew Evans. They had three children, Jolene 1945, Richard Douglas 1947, Rodney Marc 1952. Survivors include Jolene (Darryl) Smutz, of Sandy Hook, VA., children Stephanie (Bill) Moore of Asheville, NC and Shane (Bryn) Smutz , of Richmond, VA., Richard (Laura) Evans, Jefferson, CO. children Darcey Evans and Tagan Evans, of Topeka, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-children. She was preceded in death by great granddaughter Abbey Rubottom, son Rodney Marc 1979, husband James Andrew 1997. Brother Clarence Milton Ford, sisters Garnet Mae Perkins (Ford), Vada Pauline Gruber (Ford), Ruby Naomi Collier (Ford).

She married Clyde Maurice Ellis, a childhood friend, on February 14, 2001. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2010. Survivors of Clyde & Evelyn’s step family include ; son, Bill (Stasia) Ellis of Aurora, CO; daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Barngrover, Sue (Larry) Byers both of Wichita; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the United Methodist Church, Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the Beam Senior Center or the United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
