Evelyn Louise (Edgar) Mace, age 84, of Johnson, Kansas died Monday, April 6, 2015 at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was born October 20, 1930 in Lincoln, Kansas, the daughter of John Henry and Evelyn Pearl (Copeland) Edgar.
Evelyn graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1953. She married Lewis Mace on December 31, 1955 in Kinsley, Kansas. She and her husband owned Mace Tire and Oil for 44 years. She also taught Typing, Bookkeeping, Shorthand, Business, English and Aeronautics. She was the first lady in the state of Kansas to receive a commercial pilots license and mulit-engine pilots license in 1970. Evelyn also was a Cub Scout leader as well as a Girl Scout leader. She was an avid musician playing the piano and organ, and multiple other instruments. She attended the First United Methodist Church, was the organist for years, and played in the bell choir. Evelyn was a big sponsor of high school activities; some of them being trips to Mexico. She also traveled to Hawaii, Australia, Bora Bora, Morea, Tahaiti, and other countries.
She is survived by two sons, Art Mace and wife Terri of Owasso, Oklahoma, LeRoy Mace and wife Terri of Severance, Colorado; one daughter, Martha Mace of Granite Canon, Wyoming; brother, Max and wife LeOra Edgar of Cleburne, Texas; sister, Ellen Campbell of Julesburg, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Heather Hinrichs and husband Brent of Johnson, Kansas, Marty Mace and wife Shera of Parker, Colorado, Greg Mace and Heather Dreiling of Wichita, Kansas, Heike Warner and husband Ben of Katy, Texas, Brittny Mace of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jennifer Hunninghake and husband Craig of Manhattan, Kansas, Chelsea Mace of DeRidder, Louisiana, Dahmahnic Mace and wife Hailey of Honolulu, Hawaii; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis; and daughter, Marsha Mace.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas with Pastor Richard Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Visitation hours are from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
