Eva “Lorraine” (Mata) Steadman

Eva “Lorraine” (Mata) Steadman, 64, died on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

She was born on June 6, 1957 to Margaret (Madrid) and Consepcion “Chon” Mata in La Junta, Colorado.

Lorraine married Jerry Don Steadman in LaJunta, Colorado.

Lorraine had a love for music; it was a constant in her home and in her car, she would sing to it and dance to it and knew every lyric. Lorraine was employed as a cook at Southwest Medical Center and later at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal; she took great pride in providing the meals for the residents there. She also had a great love for dogs and especially her family.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Steadman of the home; a son, Jerod Steadman of Liberal, KS; siblings, Floyd Whatley, Sr. of Garden City, KS, Jesse Whatley and wife Cindy of La Junta, CO, Jerry Mata and wife Janet of La Junta, CO, Gloria McKinney and husband David of La Junta, CO, Victor Mata of La Junta, CO, Christine Mata of Denver, CO, and Larry Mata and wife Connie, of Lamar, CO; mother-in-law, Betty Heston of Tyrone, OK, brothers-in-law, Gary Steadman and wife Louann of Colwich, KS, and Larry Steadman of Fort Worth, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Per the request of Lorraine’s family, there will no public viewing.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, Liberal. Burial will follow in Liberal City Cemetery.
