Eva Jean Newburn

Eva Jean Newburn, 83, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away April 22, 2014 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

Jean was born July 12, 1930 on the farm near Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Archie and Goldie Herald Judd. She attended Lemon Rural School until the eighth grade and the attended Hooker High School graduating with the Class of 1948.

She worked for Bell Telephone as an operator in Hooker and later the First National Bank of Hooker. In 1961 she was united in marriage to Doyle Newburn in Las Vegas, Nevada. They later made their home in Waco, Texas then lived in Perryton, Texas. Doyle passed away in 1988, Jean continued to live and work in Perryton. She moved to Hooker in 1990 to care for her mother.

Jean enjoyed crocheting, Skip-Bo and traveling. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hooker, Oklahoma.

Those proceeding in death were her parents, her husband, Doyle, a brother, Alvin Jude, step brother, Ryal Gantt and step sister Billie Jane Kruse.

Survivors include her son, Dennis and Carolyn Newburn of Alvarado, Texas; her daughter, Linda Jean and Tommy Word of Dumas, Texas; step brother, Dwyatt Gantt of St. Louis, Missouri; step sister, Winifred Robertson of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Lisa Roessner, Kevin Kell and Tonya Richardson; four great grandchildren, Jordon Kell, Braiden Richardson, Jeff Roessner and Zachary Roessner.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Hooker, Oklahoma with Dan Herald officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Hooker, Oklahoma.
