After an amazing and full life, Esther Mary Davis, age 100, died on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Pleasant Valley, Missouri.
She was born on April 18, 1924, in Tyrone, Oklahoma, to J. Clayton and Elsie (Coats) Hoover.
Esther was a proud graduate of Eureka High School in Baker, Oklahoma, where she was salutatorian of her graduating class. She also completed one year at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma.
She was united in marriage to Cecil Leslie Davis, Sr. on April 1, 1945, in Tyrone, Oklahoma. They were married a total of 50 years until his death on October 17, 1995. Esther was the loving mother of three sons, Cecil Leslie (“C.L.”), Stephen, and David, and one daughter, Sherry.
Esther operated the Liberal Welcoming Service for two decades, from 1951 to 1971. She was a dedicated Avon representative from 1971 to 2004, bringing joy and beauty to the lives of many through her work. Esther’s life was filled with passion and purpose. She devoted her time to various organizations and clubs, including the First Baptist Church, the Busy Bee 4-H Club, and the Antelope Valley Club. She was a leader in the 4H Club and member of the Home Demonstration Club. Esther was devoted to her family and her faith, and she was very much loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Clayton and Elsie Hoover; her husband, Cecil Leslie Davis, Sr.; her brother Gerald Hoover and his wife, Betty; her son C.L. Davis; and her son-in-law Bill Burns.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Burns of Kansas City, MO; her sons, Stephen Davis and his wife Miriam of Sapulpa, OK, and David Davis and his wife Linda of Jenks, OK; her daughter-in-law Kandy Davis of Holcomb, KS; and her grandchildren: Stephanie Clews and her husband Rodney, Jeremy Davis and his wife Sheila, Sara Barlow and her husband Neil, Catherine Fontana and her husband Denis, Leslie McTighe and her husband Bradley, Margaret Sprouse and her husband Jacob, Mary Anna Wallace and her husband Brian, Zachary Davis and his wife Kasey, Caleb Davis and his wife Hannah, Corrie Wine and her husband Dustin, and Keely Qualls and her husband Tanner. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas. Lora Jones will be officiating.
An interment will follow at the Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone, Oklahoma.
