Erwin James (Jim) Welch

Erwin James (Jim) Welch, age 71, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at his Meade, Kansas, residence.
 
He was born August 23, 1947, at Fredericksburg, Texas, the son of Erwin and Vera (Burrier) Welch.  As a young boy he attended grade school in Willow City, Texas, later graduating from Fredericksburg High School in 1965. He later attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas.
 
In October, 1974, he married Carmen Cornett Harms in Fredericksburg, Texas.  After their marriage the couple lived in Texas before moving to rural Meade County in 1983.  Over the years, Jim worked on ranches for several years, the Meade County Recycling Center for eleven years, was the caretaker for Graceland Cemetery, and continued to mow several area yards over the years.
 
He enjoyed hunting for antler sheds, looking for arrowheads, working with leather and spending time with his family and friends.
 
He is survived by his wife Carmen of Meade; two daughters, Jamie Harms of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Tracy Duncan of Salina, Kansas; a brother, Bert Welch of Willow City, Texas; a sister Martha Welch of Kerrville, Texas; a grandson, Jeffrey Duncan; and two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Cooper Duncan.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Tom Welch.
 
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018,  at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  As Jim requested, cremation has taken place. Inurnment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
 
The family would welcome memorials to the Cancer Center of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
