Ernestine E. Holmes, age 87, passed away late Monday evening, November 9, 2020, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
She was born April 15, 1933, at New York, the daughter of Reverend Forest and Ruby Dee (Eberle) Good. As young girl, she attended school in Marion, Kansas, graduating from Marion High School. After her graduation, she attended Taylor University, graduating with her degree in Music Education.
On July 14, 1955, she married Howard A. Holmes at the United Methodist Church in Plains. After their marriage, she taught vocal music at Kismet for a year. After the birth of her first child, she left teaching to become a mother and farmer along with Howard for many years. They owned and operated Nutricultured Orchards.
She was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church and the Laureate Beta Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, music, and spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Roger S. Holmes and wife Wendy of rural Plains, Merlin J. Holmes and wife Zoe Ann of Monument, Colorado, Stuart L. Holmes and wife Carolyn of Tribune, Kansas, Janelle D. Moore of Wichita, Kansas, and William C. Holmes and wife Carole of Norman, Oklahoma; a brother, Wallace Good and wife Marta of San Diego, California; eighteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Howard on October 13, 2003; her parents; and a brother Ken Good.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the United Methodist Church, Plains. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery.
