Ernestina “Tina” Chavez

Ernestina “Tina” Chavez, age 54, of Hugoton, Kansas, died Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. She was born April 6, 1968, in Valle Verde, Qrt, Mexico, the daughter of Filimon and Daria (Orozco) Marquez.

Ernestina grew up in Mexico and married Silvino Chavez on January 16, 1988. They moved to Hugoton in 1988. She worked at McDonald’s for 8 years before working in housekeeping at Stevens County Hospital. She also cleaned the Citizens State Bank. Ernestina easily made friends and would take the time to visit with everyone she met. She enjoyed shopping, traveling with her husband and family, and listening to music. Ernestina was also a very good cook, and loved attending the activities of her kids and grandkids.

Ernestina is survived by her husband, Silvino of their home; children, Adriana Alfaro and husband Daniel of Hugoton, Janelle Molinar and husband Cesar of Wichita, Josue Chavez and wife Cassidy of Amarillo, Texas, and Sayra Rubio and husband Abelardo of Waco, Texas; brothers and sisters, Balbina Rodriguez, Prisco Marquez, Juan Marquez, Nazaria Marquez, Bernardo Marquez, Alicia Marquez, Luis Marquez, and Maribel Coronilla; and four grandchildren, Daniella, Luis Daniel, and Diego Alfaro and Ace Chavez.

Ernestina is preceded in death by her parents, Filimon and Daria Marquez; brother, Salvador Marquez; and daughter, Janelle Chavez.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Monte Santo Church in Hugoton with Pastor Jorge Tinoco officiating. Interment will follow at Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.
