Emma Lou (Huebner) Hodges

Emma Lou (Huebner) Hodges was born on July 11, 1936 in Beaver, OK, to Walter and Elsa (Pfiefer) Huebner.

She grew up on the family farm near Turpin, OK, with her parents and older brother Walt. She always loved being a country girl and lived in the country most of her life.

Emma Lou married young and had three children, Alan, Debbie, and Jerry. They were very close in age so she was a busy young mother. After she divorced and her children went to school she decided to go to college and pursue a degree. Her great love was music so she chose to major in Music Education. She car pooled with other friends to Panhandle State College every day to obtain her degree. When she graduated she took a job teaching vocal music in Forgan, OK. She taught many students to love music and could still remember which songs many of them sang at competitions.

Music outside the classroom was also very important to her. She gave piano lessons to many students passing on the love of playing the piano. She played for dozens, if not hundreds, of weddings and funerals, never thinking it was a chore, but a gift that she could share with others during their happiest or saddest times.

After Emma Lou and her children moved to Forgan, she met the great love of her life, Albert (Sonny) Hodges. They soon married and blended their two families. She now had two more sons, Brent and Mark.

Sonny and Emma Lou traveled all over the country in their RV. They made many friends on their travels and enjoyed the RV life for many years. When Sonny’s health began to fail they sold their RV and moved to the big city of Beaver, OK. She never really liked living in town but tried to make the best of the situation.

Emma Lou loved her family very much. She and Sonny spent many hours traveling all over to watch their grandkids participate in music or sporting events. She loved being on the go and would take off on a moment’s notice. It was difficult for her to miss activities when her health would no longer allow her to attend milestone events.

Emma Lou fell asleep in death on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Beaver County Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, her daughter Debbie, son Brent, and grandson Clay.
