Elmer W. Schmidt, 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas.
He was born to Bernhard and Lena (Wedel) on October 11, 1929, in Newton, Kansas.
Elmer and Shirley Ann Friesen were married on April 12, 1957. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2007. To this union there were four children Kristy, Loren, Kevin, and Kerry. Elmer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Elmer was a farmer and an active member of the First Mennonite Brethren Church.
Elmer is survived by his four children, Kristy Enegren, Wichita, KS., Loren and Kim Schmidt, Ulysses, KS., Kevin and Connie Schmidt, New York and Kerry and Larry Finlay, Syracuse, KS; nine grandchildren, Brendon Schmidt, Keturah Schmidt, Katelynd Schmidt, Olivia Schmidt, Alyssa Nida, Trudi De Witt, Carissa Goertz; five great grandchildren, Darian Cashler, Braxton and Breelynne Nida and Aslynn Goertz; two great great grandchildren, Brecklynn De Witt and Braylee Jo Lankford, a brother Wilbert Schmidt, Ulysses, KS and other relatives and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Brandon Chambers, brothers, Albert, Dan, Harry and Carl and, sister, Verna Harms.
Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2020 at Golden Cemetery, Ulysses, KS at 11:30 AM with Pastor James Barry.
