Ella Rose Koehn
Joe Denoyer - July 13, 2022 11:46 am
Our beloved Mother, Ella Rose Koehn, the sixth of thirteen children of Amiel and Hannah (Koehn) Koehn was born on December 24, 1937, in Winton, California. She quietly and peacefully went to her eternal reward at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas, on July 9th reaching the age of 84 years.
Her childhood years were spent in the Winton and Livingston, California, communities. The rural school she attended was Arundel. During her teen years she heard the call to salvation and by faith accepted Christ as her Savior. She was baptized by Minister Claude Unruh into The Church of God in Christ Mennonite on February 26, 1954. To these vows she remained faithful.
Ella Rose found her life’s companion in Jacob Koehn. On April 20, 1958, they joined hands in marriage at Livingston, California, with Minister Jesse Koehn officiating. To this union nine children were born. Our parent’s married life was highlighted by frequently moving from one locality to another, living in Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Washington and Arizona. In April of 2021, Father and Mother moved to Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. They shared the joys and sorrows of married life for sixty-five years.
It was the simple things that brought joy to our dear Mother’s heart. She loved baking, canning, quilting and gardening. She was a homemaker. Her listening ear and unerring steadfastness was an anchor for each one of us. Her unwavering faith in God expressed itself in the difficult times of life, especially during the passing of our four siblings. Her meekness was personified in quietness and submission. So often, she gathered our few earthly possessions for yet another move, however; our loving Mother has made her last move and will forever enjoy the mansion prepared for her.
Those left to cherish memories are her husband, Jacob of Montezuma, Kansas; two daughters, Twila (Steve) and Karen both of Stover, Missouri; three sons, Anthony (Virginia), Wes (Sara) of Stover, Missouri, and Dexter (Tammy) of Ulysses, Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Carol Koehn of Stover, Missouri; five sisters, Violet Esau (John) of Winton, California, Neoma Amoth (Norman) of Livingston, California, Helen Koehn of Colcord, Oklahoma, Edith Koehn and Ethel Koehn of Livingston, California; three brothers, Merle (Letha) Koehn of Montezuma, Kansas, Raymond Koehn (Mary) of Atwater, California, and Leonard (Charlotte) of Stover, Missouri; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four of her children, Melanie, Denny, David and Monty; parents, Amiel and Hannah; three sisters, Viola Koehn, Ruby Esau and Lorraine Unruh; one brother, Robert (Laverna); five brothers-in-law; and one grandson.
Funeral service will be Friday, July 15, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Grant Mennonite Church in rural Grant County with Minister Denton Koehn and Minister Stuart Jantzen officiating. Interment will follow at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
