Elizabeth W. Toews, age 88, of Montezuma, Kansas, died Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Bethel Home in Montezuma. She was born February 12, 1930, in Montezuma, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Weins) Toews.

Elizabeth attended school in Montezuma. She previously worked as a nurse’s aide in the hospital. She most enjoyed meeting the people. Elizabeth also cleaned at the church and school. She retired at the age of 70. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cooking. Elizabeth was a member of the Grant Mennonite Church in Ulysses.

Elizabeth married Cornelius Toews on February 27, 1949. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Bertha Goosen and husband Leonard of Ulysses, Anita Goosen and husband Lloyd of Greensburg, and Ron Toews and wife Rosalee of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; siblings, David Toews, Nettie Goosen, Esther Penner, Frances Penner, and Walter Toews; 13 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. 

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cornelius; and sisters, Marie Wedel, Martha Goosen, Susie Toews, Ruth Schmidt, and Clara Epson; and one granddaughter.

Friends may call Monday, February 19, 2018, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, and from 3:00 PM from 4:00 PM at Bethel Home in Montezuma. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 10:30 AM at Grant Mennonite Church in rural Grant County with Minister Denton Koehn and Minister Stuart Jantzen officiating. Interment will follow at Grant Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethel Home in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
