Eileen Ruth Rice, 88, of Liberal, passed from this life and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
She was born on September 10, 1934 to Elmer and Ida (Gilbreath) Parks in Plainview, TX..
Eileen married Milton Leroy Rice on December 22, 1951 in Garden Grove, CA.
She had lived in Texas, California, and Kansas; moving to Liberal in 1969. She worked for a short time in 1952 as a Clerk / Typist at Camp Cooke, California keeping records for military personnel recruiting, promotion, transfer, etc.
Eileen was active in community and church. She volunteered her time helping others with their tax preparation for many years. She worked for various small businesses until she became Manager of the Southgate Mall. She also owned Pride and Joy, a baby furniture and clothing store that was located in the mall. Eileen later became Manager of Westkan Apartments and was named Site Manager of the year in 1990 and 1998. She served on the Board of American Red Cross, served as Music Director at Community of Christ Church both local and for the Western Kansas District, and was also a Sunday School Teacher where she loved teaching children about God.
She loved playing sports (especially baseball) when she was young; was a wonderful seamstress; and always used her creativity to plan special family vacations, camping trips, and special homemade gifts for her family.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband of 71 years Milton. Two Daughters: Letitia Landry, New Port Richey, FL; LaWilda Hogan (Kelly), Broken Arrow, OK; Grandchildren: Denasa Rice (Tyson Luna), Tyson Rice (Mandy), Liberal, KS; Kiffany Hogan, Broken Arrow, OK; Todd Hogan (Megan), Coweta, OK and Lisa Landry (Chris), New Port Richey, FL.; Great Grandchildren: Hudson and Caylon Rice; Gavin and Gennica Maher; Aaden and Ian Hogan; and Joslynn Landry
She was preceded in death by her Parents – Elmer and Ida Parks; Brothers – Floyd and Lloyd Parks; Son – Guy Rice; Daughter in Law – Jacque Rice and Great Granddaughter – Channing Rice
There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place.
Per the family’s wishes of not having a Funeral Service, a Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 11th at Believer’s Ministry Church located at 1071 S. Clay Ave in Liberal.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Liberal Fire Dept. Firefighter Fund in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826
