Eddie Joe Batterton, age 67, of Johnson, Kansas, died February 23, 2025, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson. He was born on April 19, 1957, in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Joseph Franklin and Jacqueline (Scrivner) Batterton.
Eddie was a lifelong member of the Manter United Methodist Church. He was very active in 4-H as a youth who loved all animals, especially dogs. But he never quite appreciated cats until he was married. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1975. He then attended Northwest Kansas Area Vo-Tech in Goodland, where he studied automotive body, paint and repair. After working a few different jobs, he decided he wanted to work on the farm with his Father, Brother and Uncle. He married Cindy Whittington on July 19th, 1980, in Johnson. Eddie led a full and active life. He was a lifelong farmer, carpenter, upholsterer, mechanic, owned Hairy Ed’s Carpet Cleaning with his son Wylie, and was an owner and operator of Batterton Automotive where he made many friends.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Cindy, of their home; daughter, Darci Diane Batterton of Manter; mother, Jacqueline Batterton of Johnson; sister, Evelyn Hacker and husband, Chuck, of Wichita; brother, Lynn Batterton and wife, Lisa, of Manter; four grandchildren, Blaze, Belle, Birdie, and Bristol Batterton all of Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Oaklee.
Eddie is preceded in death by his father, Joe Batterton; and son, Wylie Joe Batterton.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with Reverend Jacques Kambol officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
