Earl “Pete” McManaman, age 86, of Ulysses, Kansas died Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born April 24, 1928 in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Everett James “EJ” and Lucy (Oller) McManaman.
Pete grew up in Copeland and Montezuma, attending school in Copeland. He farmed with his father for many years. He married Lois Simpson on June 10, 1944 in Ulysses, Kansas. He continued farming while working as a supervisor for the Kansas Department of Transportation after 40 years of service. After retirement, he was also an owner of a mobile home park for over 45 years, and transported vehicles for Riley Ford. Pete enjoyed camping with his wife, doing yard work, helping his neighbors, family gatherings, spending time with and supporting his grandkids and great-grandkids.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane Vanderpool of Ulysses, Kansas, Linda Wise and husband Joe of Ulysses, Kansas; six grandchildren, Lucy Ray Altis, Lora Foresman, R.E. Vanderpool Jr., Amanda Wise, Crystal Wise, and Tim Wise; eight great-grandchildren, Oren Earl and Kimberly Altis, Kylie, Kaden and Koby Vanderpool, Kellen Carson, Alex and Wesley Wise; and three sisters-in-law, Billie McManaman, Florence McManaman and Clara McManaman.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois in 2011; nephew Terry Wayne Simpson; two sisters, and six brothers.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Sam Bynum officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Grant County Senior Center or Pets Miracle Network and Sanctuary (a no-kill shelter) in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
