Duane J. Snook, age 80, of Johnson, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. He was born August 5, 1938, in Ford Kansas, the son of Leroy Dee and Nellie Ruth (Padget) Snook.
Duane has lived in Johnson since he was a freshman, graduating from Johnson High School. He then served four years in the U.S. Navy. Duane attended Kansas State University before returning to Johnson. He worked at Winger Cattle Company, Western Feed Yard, and also farmed. Duane raised, trained, and raced horses in Chicago and Florida.
Duane is survived by his brother-in-law, Mearl Morris of Johnson; nephews, Jerry Morris and wife Rhonda and their son, Cody Morris, all of Johnson, Justin Snook and wife Dee of Port Angeles, Washington; step-niece, Brenda Williams and husband Mark of Wilkeson, Washington; step-nephew, Larry Walkemeyer and wife Deb of Long Beach, California; and other great-great-nephews.
Duane is preceded in death by his father, Roy Snook; mother and step-dad, Nellie and Walter Winger; brother and sister-in-law, Royce and Mardelle Snook; and sister, Mona Morris.
Memorial service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas, with military graveside rites by Johnson VFW Post #3684. There will be no public calling hours.
