Duane H. Burt, 83, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society in Liberal, KS.

He was born November 1, 1931 near May Day in Washington County, KS, the son of Lloyd and Ola (Rose) Burt. Duane was a veteran having served from 1951 – 53 in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

On October 20, 1962, he married Wava Clark in Longford, KS. They later divorced.

Duane worked all his life in the trucking industry. While living in Clay Center, KS, he and his brother, Dale had a trucking business. In 1965, Duane moved to McPherson, KS and worked in truck sales for McKenna Chevrolet. He made Liberal his home in 1971 and was again in truck sales working at Hood Chevrolet and Stu Emmert Chevrolet. He was looked upon as quite a leader in truck sales by GM. He was sent to sales management school and used principles he learned from Dale Carnegie to succeed in his sales and business endeavors. He was the owner of Burt Trucking and after retirement became a part-time cattle rancher.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #80 in Liberal.

He is survived by his

Son, Kyle Burt and wife Patricia of Adams, OK;

Daughter, Karla Burt Shaffer of Sand Springs, OK;

Companion, Betty Jane Buchanan of Liberal, KS;

Brother, Wilbur Burt and wife Mabel of Overland Park, KS;

Sister-in-law, Rose Marie Burt of Clay Center, KS;

Grandson, Deakon Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Burt, mother, Ola Winterscheid and brother, Dale Burt.

Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Petty presiding. Inurnment will follow at Liberal Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be 1 – 8 p.m. Monday at Brenneman Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
