Dorothy Stout-Spears, of Hooker, Oklahoma, departed this life to be with her blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2016.

Dorothy Nadine Mayer Stout-Spears was born in Hooker Okla. on November 26th 1922 to Robert H (Bob) Mayer and Nannie Hodges Mayer.  Dorothy was saved and baptized at the Hooker First Baptist Church in January of 1933 where she remained a member until her death.   She grew up and attended Hooker schools from Kindergarten through high school and graduated with the class of 1940.

She attended business school in Dodge City, Kansas and worked for the Ford Motor co. and later Dodge City Coop elevator as a bookkeeper.  She later worked for Frank Parks in Hooker composing gas and oil contracts.

She met Billy Oliver Stout while she lived in Dodge City, Kansas, where they fell in love and were married at the 1st Baptist Church in Dodge City on June 20, 1942.  They began their lives together and in September the 3rd of 1942 Billy entered the US Air Corp., whereupon Dorothy moved to Kansas and later to Macon, GA. She stayed with him until his deployment to the South Pacific.  It was then that she moved to Denver, Colo. and worked at Cottrels until Billy was discharged.

After Billy’s discharge they decided to return “home” to Hooker in March of 1950 to farm, where they established a home for their children Robert Lance (Born in Denver on May 11, 1948), Billy Vance (Born in Denver on June 10, 1949), and a Daughter, Shelly Von  (born in Liberal Ks. On June 22, 1955).

Billy went to be with the Lord in 1971 after a lengthy illness.

Dorothy decided to return to the work force and joined Audrey’s dress shop for a time.  She eventually went to work for the Holiday Inn in Liberal, Ks., where she worked for 5 years.

Dorothy met Burl Spears’ at the Holiday Inn in Liberal Ks. and after a time of building a relationship they were married on July 9, 1977.  Burl worked for Micro Chemical, a Company based in Amarillo Tx., who moved them to Greeley, CO. where they lived until 1990. Burl retired in 1990 and they decided to once again, move back “Home” to Hooker.  Dorothy and Burl built a home on the corner lot that her Father Robert (Bob) Henry Mayer had purchased many years before.

After their move back to Hooker they decided to “see the world”.  They purchased a motor home and spent many happy days from South Texas to Colorado, to Iowa which allowed them to fill many of their bucket list wishes.  Spending time with friends, family and great destinations was the order of the day.

Dorothy was a member of the local Sweet Adelines chapter which sang Barbershop music.  She was also a charter member of the “Okie-Notes” Quartette.  She sang for many charity events as well as for fun and entertainment for the community and surrounding communities.  She had a famous “15” minutes of fame when her group was featured at the local TV station in Garden City, Ks. in April 1966.  She also sang in the local church choir where it was always a special day when Dorothy brought the music special for Sunday. Dorothy also sang and performed at the local Lions Minstrels music presentations.  Dorothy also loved to play the organ and many hours were spent around the organ with family as mom played her favorites for the family to enjoy and join in on.

Dorothy was a charter member of the Rose Garden flower club.  She also enjoyed being a charter member of the Rainbow girls, member of the high school chorus and pep squad, as well as glee club and high school quartet.  Dorothy loved music and made it a major part of her life.  Her beautiful voice and willingness to share brought much enjoyment to those that heard her.  Her life truly inspired others and gave glory to God in all that she did. Dorothy also enjoyed writing poetry for many years and once won an award in Colorado.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Henry (Bob) Mayer and Nannie Mayer, one sister, Margaret, one baby brother (stillborn), her brother, Robert, and her daughter, Shelley Von Henkener.
