MEADE, KS — Dorothy Jean (Specht) Blehm, age 83, passed away January 30, 2024, at the Minneola District Hospital, Minneola, Kansas.

Dorothy was born in Meade, Kansas, August 8, 1940, to Lewis and Caroline Specht. She attended school at Sunny Dale (grades 1-4), Moundview (5-8), and Meade High School (grades 9-12). On September 21, 1958, Dorothy married the love of her life, Richard Henry Blehm. Together they raised three sons: Randy, Kevin, and Brian.

During her later school years, she began working for Tony & Russ Palmer at Tony’s Cafe, where she worked for 33 years. She also worked at Lakeway, Thorsell Drug, Bachman Drug, and the Meade District Hospital in housekeeping and dining. Later in life she also worked for The Dusty Rose flower shop. Dorothy also served her community in various ways, including teaching Sunday School and through Youth Leadership at Saint John Lutheran Church, as well as being a 4-H Leader for Town & Country.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lewis & Caroline Specht; brother Ormand Cordes; husband, Richard Blehm; her two infant sons, Gerald Duane and Michael James Blehm; her two sisters Bonnie and Donnie.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Randall Blehm of Meade; Kevin Blehm (Denise) of Abilene, KS; and Brian Blehm of Brighton, CO; her sister Laurabelle Brinckman of Meade; as well as her two beloved grandsons, Seth and Gavin Blehm.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Saint John Lutheran Church, Meade. Interment will follow at the Stone School House Cemetery, Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to Saint John Lutheran Church in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, or a random act of kindness in Dorothy’s memory.
