Dorothy (Dot) May Cherry Turner

Dorothy (Dot) May Cherry Turner was a caring wife, mother, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and sister to her family, as well as her husband’s family. She left this world on January 2, 2023, just three days after her 96th birthday.

She was born to Paul and Gurtha (Word) Cherry on December 30, 1926, in Tyrone, OK, joining her parents and sister Pauline. After graduating from high school, Dorothy left Tyrone for Lubbock, TX, to enlist as a Cadet Nurse to pursue her lifetime dream to be a nurse. While in school there she met C.R. (Bill) Turner who lived with his parents across the alley from the nurses’ housing after he was medically discharged from the Army Air Force.

After their marriage, September 7, 1947, Dorothy and Bill moved to several states with their family of (eventually) six children, finally retiring in Bartlesville, OK.

Surviving Dorothy are her children Cheri (Chuck) Burch, Gregory Turner, and Vicki Warren, as well as six of her grandsons and eight great-grandchildren. Predeceasing her were her husband of 68 years C.R. (Bill), her sister Pauline (Cherry) Mills, her sons Hal, Paul, and Bradley, her son-in-law Howard Warren, and her grandson Jeffrey Burch.

Dorothy was always busy, not only managing a household of eight, but also cooking for family and friends and crafting, including needlepointing, cross-stitching, ceramic painting, and sewing. She was a 77-year member of P.E.O., an international philanthropic educational organization, dedicated to women’s education. In addition, Dot and Bill were actively involved in First Church and the 55+ Club of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She returned to nursing after a family-building pause and worked as an RN in various positions until retirement.

A graveside service is scheduled for January 13, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at the Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone, OK. In lieu of flowers, you might consider donating in memory of Dot to her favorite senior hangout, Bartlesville 55+ Activity Center, 1400 SE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006

Roberts Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
