Dorothy Ann Jackson, 71, of Liberal, passed away on July 24, 2018 at the Specialty Hospital at St. Francis in Wichita, KS.
She was born on November 5, 1946 to Bennie and Harvey (Bolden) Smith in Gould, AR.
In 1968 she married JW Jackson, Sr. in Gould, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Dorothy spent her childhood in Gould, Arkansas. In 1968 Dorothy and her family moved to Liberal, KS. Dorothy went to work at the Liberal Good Samaritan Center and then later at ALCO until their closing. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, crocheting, word puzzles, gardening, fishing, giving to multiple charities. She loved doing missionary work in her community! She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church of Liberal and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Gould, Arkansas. Dorothy was active in church where she served as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Secretary, Treasurer and volunteered weekly in the clothe’s ministry at the Church of Christ in Liberal; she had a deep love for God, community, and was a devoted grandmother who help raise her grandchildren – Courtney, Kquintero, Xe’Tarius, Teonja, Xavion, Trinity and Tylin.
Dorothy is survived by Two Daughters- Sonja Jackson-Tatum of Newport News, VA, Angel Jackson of Hampton, VA; Son- JW Jackson, Jr. of Hiawatha, KS; Three Sisters- Ora B Thomas of Liberal, KS, Leola M Adams of Phoenix, AZ, Scottie M Smith of Dewitt, AR; Two Brothers- Dan C Smith of Liberal, KS, Eddie L Smith of Phelan, CA; Two Stepdaughters- Betty J Hale and Candy A Jackson of Spartanburg, SC; Stepson- Frank L Garcia-Jackson of Tyler, TX; 18 Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Daughter- Abigail Smith, Sons -Thaddeus Smith and Jerome Smith., Brothers – LC Smith , Sr., Eulishous Smith, and Alfred Smith, Sister – Future M Smith,
Visitation will be 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, KS.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, August 3, 2018, at the Bibleway Church of God In Christ.
Burial will follow in the Liberal City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or National Kidney foundation in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826.
