Doris J. Sawyers

Doris J. Sawyers, age 88, passed away early Thursday morning, February 27, 2020, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.

She was born August 17, 1931, at Protection, Kansas, the daughter of Lloyd Francis and Geneva Lavell (Morlan) Scovell. As a young girl, she attended school in Protection. On May 11, 1946, she married Walter Ralph Sawyers, Jr. at Coldwater, Kansas. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Ashland area, moving to Meade in July, 1956. In the mid 1970’s she began her career in food service, working for the Meade USD 226 school system for several years.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and attended the Beam Senior Center. She enjoyed hand crafts, crocheting, crosstiching, making dolls, working in her flower garden, word puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Terry Gene Sawyers of Lyons, Kansas, and Jimmie Lee Sawyers of Chandler, Arizona; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, on September 24, 2005; her parents; and a brother, Lloyd Dewayne Sawyers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the Beam Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
