Doris Dye:UPDATED

Doris L. Dye, of Rolla , Kansas , was residing in the Morton County Care Center in Elkhart , Kansas , went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2011 at the age of 95. She was born September 1, 1916 in rural Meade , Kansas , the daughter of John and Mary Teeter.

Doris grew up on the Teeter farm eight miles north of Moscow and graduated from Moscow High School in 1936. After high school, she attended cosmetology school in Dodge City , Kansas , and operated beauty shops in Wichita , Ulysses, and finally in Rolla where she retired after working in her own shop there for twenty-four years. In 1962, Doris married Manford Dye and relocated to Rolla from Ulysses. Manford passed away February 19, 1995, also in the Morton County Care Center . Doris was a long time member of the Rolla United Methodist Church , Richfield Study and Social Club, and United Methodist Women’s Club where she has been treasurer for ten years.

She is survived by her sister, Margret Parks of Eureka Kansas, and sister-in-law, Myrtle Teeter of Johnson, Kansas . Also surviving are members of the Dye family: sisters of Manford, Daisy Lucas and Jessie Skillen; one sister-in-law, Evelyln Dye (married to the late Homer Dye); and one brother-in-law, Bob Skillen. She is also survived by sons, Roger DeGarmo of Broken Arrow , Oklahoma , and his wife Carla, and Ron DeGarmo of Rolla , Kansas , and his wife Pat. Seven grandchildren survive: Aaron DeGarmo , Austin DeGarmo, Kim Oelke, Chris DeGarmo, Jeff DeGarmo, Amanda Eickhoff, and Kelli Hall; plus, fifteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Manford Dye; her parents, John and Mary Teeter; five brothers, Henry, Harry, Ross, Ralph and Melvin; and one sister, Dorothy Nichols, and ex-husband, Harold DeGarmo.

Funeral service will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Rolla United Methodist Church in Rolla , Kansas with Reverend Sandy Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas . Friends may call Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart , Kansas . Memorials may be given to Rolla United Methodist Church or Morton County Care Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854 , Elkhart , KS 67950 .
